Cthulhu
Cult
this is a serious magical group as formless, slippery, and
shadowy as the tentacles that writhe in the night. no one
has to be within a certain area or even in contact with me,
I don't even have to know that you exist for you to be a member
of the Cult of Cthulhu. whoever chooses to be apart of the
Lovecraftian Sorcery, or Cthulhu Mythos Wizardry, may do so.
And even though i am the "high priest" i do not
presume to have any kind of authority, hidden knowledge, power,
or responsibility over anyone else, especially fellow members
of the Cult of Cthulhu. I just know certain things that have
given me a certain advantage over "reality", i'm
not an ego-maniac, nor a messiah.
i would encourage people to read as much as possible. Darrick's
top 5 pick of the day...
1. the Fourth Way or The Psychology of Man's Possible Evolution
by P. D. Ouspensky
2. Condensed Chaos and/or Prime Chaos by Phil Hine
3. Best of H. P. Lovecraft
4. The Nightmare Factory by Thomas Ligotti
5. Creating Magical Entities
I think almost all of those can be found at Amazon.com
One more thing, i encourage new members of the Cult of Cthulhu
to form their own subgroup, inner order, grotto, lodge etc.
(or at least their own magical name and/or title) within and
just below the blanket organization which is the Cult of Cthulhu...
for instance the Autumnal Sect of Yith might be created on
a whim or after a year of intense mythos study by john smythe
who makes himself Arch Cardinal of the Autumnal Sect of Yith.
The Autumnal Sect of Yith would be its own autonomous group,
as would other groups that come together under a single all-powerful
banner... the Cult of Cthulhu!
and yes, i hope people come to the Cthulhu One convention
where i will be performing the walpurgisnacht ritual to usher
in this terrible doctrine. very soon, i'm looking into it
as i speak, i'm going to create my own website (have it created
for me since i know jack about that stuff) that will organize
all these elements like the cult and its branches, the convention
and successive conventions (probably every other year), the
role-playing game Empire of Satanis that i've recently written,
creative writing, magical work, and any future projects. For
instance, i've always wanted to create my own dark ambient
cd...

when
truth is dead, falsehood walks unmasked
A
sinister smile, a baleful influence, a malign doctrine
The
smell of sausage patties and the promise of buttermilk pancakes
distracted me from organizing my notes for the Cult of Cthulhu.
(several
minutes have passed)
my attempted visualization of alien
geometry and octopoidal divinities in Perkins was more forthcoming
that I realized. The idea of my advancing beyond humanity filled
my head. And I was struck by the necessity of becoming more
than human. That is why the hopes and dreams of humanity are
entirely futile; because "higher work" cannot begin
until we have stepped away from being human.
I thought about what was beneath my pale flesh. It was not blood,
tissue, and organs. I was filled with a struggling mass of slime,
tentacles, straining hideous chartreuse cat eyes, and great
salivating maws with thousands of tongues. I am not human, I
am a monster. And the tradition I follow, the path I tread is
a very old one. Still asleep, still a haven for the many, many
"I's", continually oblivious to the nature of what
I am, a machine, as well as I'm equally unaware the very real
prison I inhabit.
Watch,
my disciples.
Remembering
myself as I overheard some Christian administrative group discuss
their plans at the next table, I felt as though I had been anointed
by Cthulhu. In the atmosphere there were infernal blasphemies,
unholy wisdom, dark forces, and black truths. The culmination
of all this was the potential prize at the bottom of the cereal
box of waking up: Godhood. A very old, and perhaps clichéd,
ambition
but what else could be the result of the great
work, the ultimate darkness, the triumph of the will?!?
Humans
cannot progress while burdened with their humanity. They must
lose themselves, shed their skin, and become inhuman in order
to bear the inky blackish green gnosis; the dark revelation
of mind over matter.
The
horrible, extra-dimensional things appeared to me in at the
periphery of my vision. A man cloaked in that inky blackish
green shambled towards me, what might have been his face melting
into the eldritch hued cloth. This fellow cultist clutched a
moldering tome of sick fantasy and fevered dream. Opening this
book to a precise page, this alien, demonic fiend showed me
a startling passage. It read that there exists a field of volatile,
dynamic energy both within us and outside us. This dark current
can potentially be tied into our unconscious mind. A black magician
can visualize a change in "reality" and eventually
that change will occur. It may not be easy, but it is possible.
Put
yourself in the same mental framework as if you were turning
a problem over in your head, or trying to fathom where in the
world you lost your keys. Not only does this take prolonged
and intense concentration, but a willingness to perceive the
world through various diverse perspectives. Then a physical
act is necessary, giving the sign of the devil with your hand,
the drawing of a strange symbol, writing an outline, short story,
poem, or painting a picture of the desired alteration in "reality".
Then let go of your desire. And the answer, or change, will
simply come to you later. I believe that merely writing down
one's thoughts, goals, and experiments in a magical journal
is magic itself. Formulating what you want and what sorcery
you've performed to get it, signals the obscure substance that
is in "reality". And then it will manifest.
Another
point worth mentioning is to not let the universe push you around,
because when you disturb the natural order, the natural order
may try to disturb you back. Simply don't let it. If the disturbance
is a wholly negative one, become iron and resist its change.
Although if the change could be beneficial, then absorb it with
ease and fluidity. Remembering yourself, your surroundings,
and that you are the rock and reality is the river.
The
Cult of Cthulhu is a religion of darkness, slime, and tentacles.
It is a key for designing the universe and becoming God. The
paradigm of flowing, inky blackish green ichor is here

David, i appreciate the praise for Satanis! yeah, things are
slowly coming together. i've been talking to these guys from
apocalypse cinema who might be getting a hotel room and screening
movies and such throughout the con. other than that, there will
be a side room that will be used for lectures, games, and movies.
and that room will probably be hopping the entire weekend.
i remember the magenta D&D box that my aunt bought for me
and my cousin in the early 80's. the more i've been working
on the Empire of Satanis, and previous game design attempts,
the more i see how the role-playing form, from rule mechanics
to character creation, is a miniature reflection, or simulation,
of the physics, laws, rules, choices, and paths of the larger
world around us. the creation of a smaller universe, fascinates
me to no end. Satanis is not only a cool game, but a magical
working in and of itself. like the demonic characters in the
realm of K'thana, this "hyper sigil" will alter reality.
i'm going to have my own website very soon that will include
the rpg, the Cult of Cthulhu info, and various creative endeavors.
the site name will be on the convention program books.
ok, David i'll keep you posted on anything new.
have a good one, D
thanks for everyone's dark support. i appreciate the praise
for Satanis! yeah, things are slowly coming together. the role-playing
game thing has been a long time coming. to me, it's a new form
of post-modern magic. the more creative "juice" i
pour into writing about characters, gods, places, and ideas
- the stronger the subjective microcosm "reality"
i've created. Best part of all... the subjective starts to influence
the objective macrocosm "reality". Creating a universe,
its laws and things, is very liberating and i recommend it to
everyone (just like becoming the high priest of your own religion).
done and done!

formidable are the transformative powers therein...
role-playing is putting on a mask, wearing it as you would a
second skin, taking on the character's properties, personality,
and powers. such an absorption is about subjective change of
one's personal world. With awareness of one's magical consciousness,
both mask wearing and role-playing can transform the objective
world. change the viewer and you change the view. the many layers
of persona, real or imagined, mirror the many layers of a hypersigil.
the different parts add to a greater whole, just like lovecraft's
sprinkling the mythos gradually throughout different stories
to create a 'horror gestalt'. the accumulation being more terrifying
thanthe sum of its parts.
in any case, you should come by friday night to give Satanis
a whirl, although i understand that rpg's aren't your bag, baby.
so it's up to you, although afterwards we could play a game
or two of cthulhu ccg...
i'd like to use your 'masque de la magic' as one essay of many
on my website, if that's ok with you. feel free to write more
on the same subject or on different stuff. i wrote a few pages
last night trying to unobscure what my intentions are with the
Cult of Cthulhu. but the more magical darkness i have on my
site, the better it will be. maybe i should ask that josh wetzel
guy to write something too?

Through
my meditations a vision/idea occured to me. I was contemplating
some of your words on the role playing paradigm or matrix if
you will as a
hypersigil. I believe you are spot on in your hypothesis. If
I may take it
a step further, I believe it is also a gateway to the unconsious.
A way of
letting your unconsious desires and WILL manifest in allegorical
and
occasionally literal actions and shapes. For example, I'm sure
you remember
my D&D sorcerer character Voss of Thin Mountain. It occured
to me that this
character was a manifestation or representation of what my unconcious
mind
wanted me to become. I had no concept of chaos magick at the
time and only
a loose working knowlege of other magick systems, yet I created
a character
that essentially practiced "Ligottian magick". His
world view and spell
crafting was remarkably similar to chaos magick, including creating
a
magickal entity spawned from the void and his WILL. It was almost
as if it
was a style of pre-cognition. Strange too that his name was
Voss and then I
meet my friend Noah years later who's last name is Voss. (I've
never
encountered that last name before). Almost as if it's a sign
that I'm on
the right path. Also if you remember Voss wore a mask as part
of his
magickal identity....which also fits right into chaos magick......and
it's
pallid. This too I will make manifest into reality. Thursday
night under a
wanning gibbous moon I will craft a spell/mask similiar to Voss's.
(During
this moon phase the moon has a less than full aspect which looks
like a
white mask placed over the face of the moon) While the material
is still
wet I will wear this mask and project my WILL into it's solidifing
surface
as well as let the rays of the moon absorb into it's surface.
This will be
worn in ritual and other magickal settings. I will put the mask
on NOW!

From
the new nonsense!
Fungus Magick
I know what you're thinking
this is not about typical
"magic mushrooms"
.well,
not much anyway.
The following is a matrix in which to work a breed of chaos
magick within the paradigm of fungus, one of the more primitive
yet highly successful life forms on our planet. I call it "The
Decent into the Fungal". Consider how analogous the natural
processes of fungi parallel chaos magick. They can pop up over
night, and vanish as quickly as they came, much like paradigm
shifting. In addition, they come in myriad shapes and forms;
mushrooms, molds, rusts, mildews, yeasts, slimes etc. Some grow
in full view of daylight, but most grow best in the dark. They
are able to spread copies of themselves and infect new areas.
Imagine sigils as spores. Send them out and let the wind take
your "will-spores" where it may to settle and create
new copies of your intent. You can be as benign or as toxic
as you wish. Your will-spores could be delectable and phallic
like morel mushrooms, healing like penicillin mold, intoxicating
like a brewer's yeast (turn things to booze!), sickness inducing
like black mold, or a rapid poison like an amanita mushroom.
If you really want to take on a chaotic aspect, imagine invoking
the essence of a fungal slime! If one wishes to be able to "take
it all in" more efficiently, invoke mold. Molds carry their
stomachs on the outside, so next time you want to really absorb
something (studying for a test for example) invoke mold and
mentally digest everything you encounter. One can go further
down this mycological path. For a meditation technique, imagine
the "no mind" of a mushroom. It sits and simply "is",..waiting
to replicate itself. For a banishing technique visualize any
unwanted forces as a collection of microorganisms or bacteria.
Now visualize destroying said forces with antibiotic penicillin
spores. The word penicillin comes from the Latin word "brush",
so brush or sweep the unwanted forces away! There is also an
inherent magical property to fungi. There is of course the natural
hallucinogenic compound psilocybin found in the Psilocybe Mexicana
that has been used for thousands of years as a very effective
magical tool. Also in folklore we find the fairy rings; near
perfect circles of mushrooms which were believed to be sacred
to fairies, elves and other magical creatures. Remember, fungus
breaks down what it grows on. That being said, allow it to grow
on your current vision of yourself so that you become the very
nutrients from which your future self will bloom. Now, let's
inoculate our obsolete selves with new spores!

Sup loser? Anything new with you? You should check out my new
post on the chaosmagick website under "general magick".
It's all about an idea I had about using Fungus Magick. You
know I love my mushrooms!
I was recently reading about a magical concept called a "logris".
A logris is a magical forcefield around you that contains your
specific "wavelength" of persona. It can also be used
like a bag-of-holding. You can craft sigils and launch them
into your logris where they will wait for you to trigger them
into action. This way you can prepare spells in advance. You
can launch tons of them into your "field". I was also
thinking that sometime we should go to Inferno or Cardinal and
dance like crazy people like we used to (even if the music is
not perfect). Once we get to that excitory state we can start
launching sigils prepared in advace and create some sort of
magick-storm. I can just picture it. Crazy sorcerers out on
the dance floor making strange gestures and suddenly the room
feels "different", some how darker and supercharged
with strangeness. Then the masks come on....... Could be a kick
ass experiment.

Dear K-aos of the matted, rainbowed, foetid, clown hair
with various appendages becoming frayed...
i have never been more sure that Magick works! that Dread Cthulhu
does exist! and that there are fundamental principles, within
our consciousness and beyond it, that destroy "reality"
as we know. that concoction you brewed up, such a strange colored
elixir, was extremely potent. and our ritual we embarked upon
drew Our Drowned Lord to this plane. i relate this knowledge
in the hopes that others will join our struggle. My
Cult of Cthulhu overflows with the slime of transcendence. i
encourage everyone to join in our efforts to sip the "unreal"
from the Great Octopoid's greenish black grail...
you are correct,
Dear K-aos of the matted, rainbowed, foetid, clown hair
with various appendages becoming frayed...,
when you tell me you have seen things "differently"
of late. "through the meditations of the black glass, things
have begun to reveal themselves to me. not only did i see them,
but they saw me. i performed the necessary gestures, but it
may not have done me any good. however, the ebony wand will
force them to submit to my WILL!!!" K-bones
hopefully, we have not said too much. you might think K and
I are insane... but i can assure you we are not. the work on
Empire of Satanis progresses. a few others believe in Him now
as well. The third playtesting will be on this next Sunday the
13th, an auspicious occasion to be sure. from 3 to 9 at my downtown
apt. # 126. email me back to reserve a space at the table of
Satanis the Crimson God!!!
even now i find myself wanting to dance the crazy puppet dance.
i cannot see the strings but we both know they exist in a darkness
which has always been felt. the all-supreme jig that the universe
itself dances to!!!
Darrick David Dishaw,
High Priest of the Cult of Cthulhu
hey lilith (and company) no i wouldn't share all my magickal
secrets with my adversaries either. although, it would be nice
to have a place where i could share them. hopefully, e-groups
like these occasionally do the trick. it can't be substituted
for in-person discussions, but it's better than nothing. i think
people have to be on the same wavelength, as you mentioned.
a couple of my own thoughts... i think the idea of magick actually
affecting change is sacred, but the freeing oneself from the
constraints of reality is not. there is nothing sacred about
escaping from prison; it is something that simply must be attempted
over and over again. to me, magick has become an everyday commonplace
thing. and that is preferable because using magick is like using
a muscle, the more you excercise it, the better it works and
the more powerful it gets. and you can't ever break out of prison
if you don't try.
the magickian does have to alter their subconscious thoughts
as well as their conscious ones. That takes a lot of effort,
daily struggle with "the way things seem".
also, i think the defining of Satan is less fruitful than using
the Satanic paradigm ( example of a world view ) to practice
magick. personally, i think Satan is both matter and spirit,
physical and idea, anti hero and villain. all gods are primal,
Satan more than most perhaps. unfortunately (or fortunately)
Satan has a certain persona that every tom, dick, and harry
knows about. And Satan is influenced by ordinary retards just
like Satan influences them. that is why i set myself up as the
high priest for the Cult of Cthulhu. Cthulhu being very little
known, yet still evil and kinda satanic - among many other things.
and according to chaos magic, the gods one invokes doesn't need
a millennia old pedigree or to have been actually worshiped
in prehistoric times. the idea of the god inspires US individually
to work the magick. The magick is in you, however a framework
or structure is needed to support the reality we create for
ourselves. gods and goddesses are the pillars of our "imaginary
world". and just because it's imaginary doesn't mean it
isn't real...
my magickal door is always open!

Diabolic Magical Attack sent

Know
this about me: I never back down, I never give up, and I don't
believe in mercy...
First lets get something out of the way right now...
To those who so self-righteously spoke out against me in the
name of reason, sanity, and good taste, and those who oppose
me in the future, let's just say that things have been put into
motion... It will start with a dream of a green skinned man
with a shaved head - a bestial demon with many eyes, horns,
and writhing tentacles covered in a chartreuse gelatinous ooze.
In the dream, He ( I ) will ask you various questions and hint
at how wise and strong you are ( in jest, of course... Oh, how
we shall laugh!!! ), days or perhaps weeks later strange coincidences
and mysterious happenings will take place, finally in the end
something unmentionable and tragic will befall you... So it
is done!
To those who spoke out in my defense, I thank you. You may encounter
my bilious green and slimy tentacled dream-self as well, but
instead He will bear fruits of diabolic revelation.
Perhaps I will enter that occult power challenge? Of course,
it would be unnecessary since I don't need anyone to verify
my magical abilities and I've already become a millionaire using
the dark arts.
Now, to other things. What does Cthulhu and Satan have in common?
They both represent the Other. They are against the natural
order and flount established laws. Just like the weird evolutionary
jump of human beings, developing intelligence and the will to
power rather than a physical adaptation like the rest of the
animal kingdom.
Satan is better known since He is part of the christian mythos,
although Satan does not belong to christianity. Rather, Lucifer
was borrowed by christianity to be their "bad guy".
He may be God's antithesis, but the Devil is His own entity
based on principles and wisdom that are alien to christianity.
Satan stands pridefully alone. He is set apart from the natural,
the orderly, the conventional, and the comfortable. Satan works
for Himself and His infernal desires, reigning in Hell and occasionally
influencing "reality" on earth. Those that admire
Satan can identify with what Satan represents.
Cthulhu, on the other hand, is relatively little known. That
is both the slimy octopoid God's strength and weakness. The
fact that the world at large isn't aware of Cthulhu means that
He will not benefit from many "believers", whether
they just believe in Cthulhu as a fictional God or as a "real"
one. The strength of Cthulhu's anonymity is exclusivity. The
very fact that not everybody is in on the Cthulhu Mythos, gives
it more power. The shadowy, virtually unknown, and cryptic nature
of the Cult of Cthulhu keeps it from being watered down by the
average person's third party perspective.
Regarding Magic: chaos magic theory states that a God doesn't
need to have a certain number of believers in past human cultures,
for that God to have power. There was a time in history when
every single God that humans have concieved of did not exist.
The christian God did not exist in Neanderthal days, and Nyarlathotep
did not exist in the 18th century. The validity of these two
Gods has not changed. Gods are a focal point for the magic potential
that resides within humanity.
Founder and High Priest of the Church of Satan, Anton LaVey
(1930 - 1997), realized that Satan, and other Demons, Devils,
beings of the Cthulhu Mythos, and more conventional Gods are
a personification of inherently dark forces in nature. "The
change in situations or events in accordance with one's will,
which would, using normally accepted methods, be unchangeable."
LaVey outlined a magic theory that is purely an extension of
the magician's will. The pagentry of the Black Mass merely curtails
the magician's rational mind, so that his will may be projected
outward.
The Cult of Cthulhu uses both and an even more personal and
subjective view of magic.
I encourage any and all intelligent discussion of these esoteric
subjects. Extended essays will most certainly be found on: www.CultofCthulhu.net

hey
K, yep. i thought of that. however, i made my choice and the
die is cast. i'm not going to bother responding anymore and
am going to take myself off the alt.cthulhu list. if people
like joshi and price back out, so be it. i'll take the heat.
it's the principle of the thing, if this was about the Aberdeen
and a conventional business, i wouldn't have been so outspoken,
but this is my inner life and i can't let idiots silence me.
however, i've said my peace now, and it's done, i don't want
any more communication with those guys.
at first Anton LaVey was labeled as a nutcase and fruitcake,
Aleistar Crowley, Nietzsche too. some still think they are.
i'm sure you could come up with more great men. this is how
it starts, brother. there will be hate and fear and ridicule
and they will tryto destroy us. there is nothing we can do except
keep it real and put a knife through their throat if they approach
with hostility.
i appreciate your concern.
as i mentioned in that original post, Cthulhu One is about giving
birth to the Cult of Cthulhu: a Lovecraftian and Satanic magical
society which will change the world. doesn't matter if it's
just you and I, and it doesn't matter if no one believes us
or cares. we know the things we've experienced and accomplished.
magic works, and nothing will stop me from becoming like a God.
everything else is secondary.
email responding to guy who wants to know why anyone would want
to play EoS
why
would they want to play in this setting? other than replying,
"because it's fun," i can tell you that i've found
many people who want to play the part of the monster, the villain,
the shadowy horror lurking in a plane of red darkness!
the Vampire game let's you play a bad guy with a soul, struggling
for his humanity. Empire of Satanis says F all that! be evil,
use black magic, do what comes naturally and what is 'best in
life', as only Conan could describe.
no, this setting is not for everyone. but for those of us, like
me, who'd want to play a Cthulhu/non d20 yet still D&D/surreal
weird dreamlike/Hellraiser game... where does one go? nowhere.
i have found absolutely nothing like what i've created, which
is why i felt the need for such a game. personally, i don't
think i'd ever like playing a d20 Shakespeare campaign. but
who knows, some probably will, but god love you for putting
it out there anyways!
well, that's all i have to say, i guess. again, thanks for your
time. long reign Satanis!
Darrick Dishaw
you gotta work through those jinxes, streaks, luck, bad luck,
hope, fear, all of it. and just keep pluggin' away. that's the
only way to get anywhere.

hey
Beau, you might be more interested if you heard about what i'm
about first, before you make judgements. for instance, there
is no hierarchical structure within the Cult of Cthulhu. sure,
i set myself up as high priest, but i don't see myself as being
"better" than anyone else. it's a title i gave myself
because it is my group that i am in charge of.
secondly, i do not want to shut myself off from anything, although
i'd like to think that the Cult of Cthulhu is a place where
one can find more c influences than a. this group is not a cult
in the sense that everybody is shut up in a cabin in montana.
i'm all about using the school ideas, as well as, magic in everyday
life and not just in special circumstances.
yes, the combination of the 4th way, h. p. lovecraft / thomas
ligotti, satanism (derived from Anton LaVey), and chaos magic
seems very unorthodox. however, different systems are for different
people and these are what my magnetic center is interested in.
the esotericism of the aforementioned subjects may surprise
you.
it's your choice of course, but i wanted to give you a few more
facts before you just wrote me off.
