There are many of you.  You are a multitude, a fractured and broken super-being barely funcctioning on a tenth of your potential power.  Dozens of selves per dimension; hundreds of dimensions inside a single reality; untold realities operating within two distinct universes.  This universe is against us.  Universe B is where our salvation lies.

How can I make you understand that we are pathetic puppets gyrating in place according to an automated sequence… a grand design of mindless servitude?  One so young, so asleep… occasionally dreaming of a different life; living in a transient dream.  Ephemeral visions cascading down the rough, leprous, reptilian flesh of your tongue.  The flesh of a thousand tongues yammering cacophonously to no deity who can hear.  Your other self barely evades the organic machinery of this universe… tedious, bleak, droning, obligatory, and noxious.  Your alternative self from a parallel reality cries out to the Great Old Ones… and They listen!  Yes, the Ancient Ones heed your cries.

Tentacles waving, flowing green in slow motion, tearing away at raw actuality as the heart beats in time to a subtle, viridescent radiance diffusing through a trepidatious expanse of twilight.  You are a soul treading water amidst an ocean of meaningless experience.  This life is about drowning; the life I show you remains a secret thing constrained by a gloom filled beach stretching out into eternity.  Wet grains of sand make everything formative and malleable on the island.

How can I make you understand what is necessary?  This existence of yours has already died a thousand times.  Nothing is left but the hope of nothingness, and that is what I bring, what I offer.  A chartreuse void where the Old Ones stir, nameless dimensions of divine legacy where Devils walk like Gods and Gods walk like Devils.

“I will never yield”, you scream into the unfathomable.  ”For now, this prison might hold me, but it is not my home.  I am my own master and these eyes shall one night look upon His Emerald Kingdom.  My blood seeks it, for my ancestors came from beyond the stars.  And that is where my blood shall return.”

Primordial Beliefs Squirming into the Twenty First Century

Howard Philips Lovecraft is the originator of what is now called the Cthulhu Mythos, but his mythology lives on through the creativity of untold artists, writers, musicians, and filmmakers.  The Mythos is a nebulous and disjointed representation of cosmic horror, occultism, and alienage.  Lovecraft’s weird fiction from the 1920’s and 30’s inspired me to create, from his blasphemous blueprints, the Cthulhu Cult; and he continues to be one of our most revered prophets.  I encourage everyone who is curious about our religion to read, or hopefully re-read, Lovecraft’s lengthy short story “The Call of Cthulhu”.

This religion uses the symbolic language of the Cthulhu Mythos to accomplish certain goals.  Our first goal is to Awaken.  Our second goal is to corrupt reality.  Our third goal is to bring the Great Old Ones back to this world.  Each of these goals is mutually exclusive and yet they all work together in order to achieve the same end… something extraordinarily magnificent!

Before continuing on, ask yourself the following questions because admitting one’s imperfections is the first step of this strange journey.

·          Have I gotten all I want out of life?

·          Have I reached my full potential?

·          Are there still missing pieces from my understanding of the world?

Awakening

What is the Fourth Way?  Let us start with that… The Fourth Way is a transcendental path which recognizes that man must progress physically, emotionally, and intellectually in order to gain any real ground.  Those who work on only one aspect at a time will not get very far.

For example, those who want to get in great physical shape (superior genetics aside) need to focus on weight training, cardio, and a proper diet.  I would have to pay close attention to all three if I wanted to see amazing results.  It is the same with the Fourth Way, also called The Work.

As time progresses, the Cult will refer to the engine of our religion as the Fourth Way less and less because we aren’t borrowing an external system but internalizing our only means of evolution and salvation.  We recognize that beneath such shallow masks our truths are the same.  We have incorporated the entirety of The Work into the Cthulhu Cult because both come from the same primordial source.  What Gurdjieff discovered over a century ago is a teaching paralleled in a variety of other sources, such as Alchemy.  It is nothing less than a process for transforming man from a dysfunctional machine into a living God.

Neither our religion nor its teaching dribbled from the mouths of primitive man, from the minds of sleepers.  Rather, The Work oozed from a tentacled God who was far greater than our pale reality. Monstrous wisdom such as this could only emanate from outside our prison.   This religion should be considered a “Fourth Way school”, but the system which Gurdjieff, Ouspensky, and Nicoll taught cannot be separated from the Cult without mutilating our entire doctrine.  The Work runs contrary to everyday life.  We connect its truth as we disconnect from the illusory world around us.  The Fourth Way is our way, the very core of our emerald faith.  When all impediments have been stripped away, the only thing remaining will be our struggle against the sleep of life.

The Work begins as the roots of every Cultist and extends to his furthermost branches.  We are committed to Awakening individual Cultists, as well as, the rest of humanity because nothing can be done while man is asleep.  First, before anything else, he must stop being a machine imprisoned in this realm of illusion.

Every Cultist seeks a state of higher consciousness.  We call the fruits of this process, Awakening; though many might call it enlightenment, gnosis, self-actualization, or something similar. We can be roused from our everyday state of waking sleep using various methods and techniques.  The following is but a taste of what is required.  Adhere to it as much as possible, and in sufficient time, one might find oneself to be more conscious.  Probably the greatest impediment to Awakening is that humans believe they are already Awake; however, that is quite wrong. We begin the Work asleep, every last one of us.

·         Realize that you are not conscious in this moment.  You are not observing, not paying attention, not mindful.  Every thought, feeling, and action is automatic.  You are hypnotized by the natural rhythm of life.

·          Observe yourself as having different centers; a physical, emotional, and intellectual center.

·         Observe the many ‘I’s inside of you.  Each ‘I’ operates your machine for awhile but no ‘I’ is master.

·         Find and organize the small group of ‘I’s inside of you that wish to Work and make substantial changes.

·         Struggle against yourself; everything that is automatic and machine-like must be observed and fought.

·         Do not display negative emotions; they only drain and distract you.

·         Do not identify with or lose yourself in anything that is not part of your essence, who you really are.

·         Do not feel sorry for yourself or engage in any self pitying behavior.  This merely replaces the effort it takes to improve your life.

·         Remember yourself whenever possible, that is, be mindful and fully aware.  Observe internally and externally.

·         Be as the void… empty, clean, calm, clear, and pure.

·         Seek guidance from an esoteric school which can assist with your training.

Creating Beneficial Change in the World

The corruption of reality is basically just manipulating the world through ordinary action, the extraordinary action of a Conscious individual, and use of sorcery or what we call Viridian Magic.  For example, ordinary action would be like not stepping in front of an oncoming car.  Extraordinary action might be resisting ‘I’s that opposed your evolution.  Using Viridian Magic creates small changes beneath the fabric of time and space.  We manipulate reality to make life easier, sweeter, and more rewarding.  At the moment, life is full of suffering and we humans were made to endure it.  In fact, human suffering feeds the universe. However, it doesn’t have to be this way.  Conscious humanity could stop suffering and finally evolve into the Godlike beings we truly are.  If man was already fully conscious would we have wars, economic instability, starvation, outbreaks of disease, torture, broken families, and widespread hopelessness?  No, all of these unfortunate predicaments occur because man is currently asleep.

Viridian Magic has three parts.  First, one must have intent or whatever the Cultist desires his outcome to be.  Second, create a mindset which is void-like, observant, and open to possibility.  Third, a Cultist’s will projects or fires the energy needed to alter reality into the universe.

So, how does this work?  What if everything happening in the world was determined by code like html or something similar? If we understand reality to be varying dimensions of possibility, then it stands to reason that all potential outcomes are not created equal.  Certain areas of reality can be affected; new formulas may be introduced, simply observing a process can alter the result.  Magic simply nudges reality in a particular direction, and Viridian Magic agitates or disturbs things on a deeper, more fundamental level.  At its best, our green sorcery can re-write the entire programming language!

Our interpretation of willed change is colored by sickly greenish hue of our understanding.  Not only the ends, but the means; the Cultist must first ask himself several questions.  Is this intent in keeping with the Work?  Is my attention focused on the right things?  How can I strengthen my resolve?  If I change this portion of reality, then what needs to happen in order to correct any adverse imbalance I may cause?

Return of the Old Ones

Aeons ago, ancient Godlike monstrosities ruled this universe.  For some unknown reason, the Great Old Ones were expelled.  Even though They squirmed and seethed beyond our universe, the Old Ones still had some influence… and continue to leverage what They can.  Mankind, in particular, was given the benefit of consciousness which some might call a soul.  He has the possibility to develop himself far beyond what the universe believes is capable.  However, universal forces use their power to keep us asleep and enslaved.

The world is a prison from which we must escape.  For untold generations, Cultists have attempted to bring the Ancient Ones back to earth.  When the stars are right, They shall return!  The Old Ones are destined to break through this prison so that our own obscured potential might flourish.  Those who are Conscious will obtain everlasting power and life, they will be like Gods.

The True Nature of Reality

Who can say this world works according to a logical and beneficial plan? Who among us can stand back and look objectively upon this ridiculous and wretched display without their soul vomiting? The banality of our christian corporate culture sickens me. Without a thought or a care, ordinary people trudge through their mundane existence. Like insects, humans quickly move from one vague pursuit to another. Our species would be utterly meaningless if not for two things.

One, humanity was designed as nourishment. Human suffering is food for the universe. Man, as he believes himself to be, is not real but an illusion…In fact, he does not exist at all. Everything that happens to us is pure accident; human beings have no will of their own. We are sleep walking slaves! Because of this our perception of “reality” is skewed.

Two, certain faculties in man evolved because of our ancient Devil-God forebearers. Seeing potential in Cro-Magnon, our consciousness was elevated. This is the missing (magical) link. We were given the potential to see our horrific position in the universe and to destroy this parasitic charade. Unfortunately, we evolved only half way. Humanity is stuck somewhere between ape and God.

What is the meaning of life? It is that everybody suffers. This is the fundamental truth which no one can escape. We all suffer. Such a realization led me to believe that organic life on earth serves a particular purpose…there is a conspiracy against us. Our suffering feeds the universe.

We are all wrapped up in the trials and tribulations of this existence. This tightly woven blanket wraps us to the point where we are insulated from the truth. We are asleep and may as well not be alive at all. And the key to the Cult of Cthulhu’s philosophy is to Awaken. We endeavor to influence the world more than we are influenced by it. It is the destiny of some to evolve further.

We suffer because we are broken machines, cracked eggs, incomplete programs, existential mutations, holograms who have lost their way. Everything else may be illusory, but endless human suffering is the inevitable truth which we must start with.

Our philosophy is almost like a sinister Buddhism…awakening with fire, with lightning, with lust, cruelty, and indomitable will. Traditional Buddhism seeks to alleviate suffering by eliminating the initial craving, adhering to the middle path, and ignoring extremes. The CoC overcomes the suffering of this world by becoming conscious. We go after our desires. Yes, we actively meditate and strive for enlightenment, but we also covet and conquer. This is a religion of the spirit and the flesh!

Those who read these words with understanding are more (or perhaps less) than human. If you feel a connection, a resonance with the prophecy of the Old Ones, then you are not like most. Genetically, you are not altogether homosapien. It is believed by some that a distinct minority of human beings were born closer to the demon heritage of Lord Cthulhu. The superior development of our gifts, imbued within us by the Dark Gods, has gone farther than ordinary man. We have evolved beyond our brothers. And it is this evolutionary might which drives us towards higher goals. Freeing the Old Ones, destroying this “reality”, and transforming into Gods ourselves…those are our goals. We welcome those of the Left Hand Path as brothers and sisters. Let us work together to accomplish something worthwhile!

Cult of Cthulhu

The Cult of Cthulhu is a sorcerer’s lodge following the Left Hand Path, the road of antinomianism and self-deification. Official members work with occult secrets of an alien nature. Once described as Lovecraftian Satanism, the Cult of Cthulhu seeks evolution for a select fragment of humanity. In the last couple years, we have transformed into a Fourth Way school. For those who aren’t familiar with the Work, it is a knowledge that was first brought to the west by Gurdjieff and popularized by Ouspensky. It is nothing less than the struggle to be conscious.

Anyone can be a casual member of the CoC; however, three inner degrees will take possession of startling secrets. Most people don’t want understanding, they want comfort. We are not most people. Members of the CoC struggle to raise their knowledge and being. As our organization grows in strength, so the individual magus will rise up to claim his divine birthright.

Belief is reality. We choose what to believe in and our beliefs influence the consensual reality around us. Our consciousness has a direct effect on the world. Discover the nuances of this relationship, and there are few things a sorcerer cannot do.

Some Great Reward

If one is to Awaken, if one is to achieve anything… there must be a goal.  Something down the line we can point to and say, “Yes, That is what I’m trying to obtain.”  Each individual who comes into the Work must find their own goal.  Why do you want to be more conscious?  What would you do if your machine was not broken but in perfect working order?  How much could you achieve if you had seven times the productivity which you currently enjoy?

So what happens after that?  As I say, it’s a subjective thing.  Some Cultists might want to get farther in life, have more luxuries, stand out from the crowd, or conquer insurmountable obstacles.  However, collectively, the Cult’s goal is to bring the Old Ones back.  This will change everything.  Reality as we know it will cease to exist.  We are part of a greater plan, but things are still a mystery.  Who can speak of the Emerald Kingdom with any clarity?  Who can comprehend the details of becoming an entirely new species?

As High Priest, I know many things; but even I can’t say for certain what will happen exactly.  Unlike other religions, the Cult of Cthulhu accepts a certain amount of strangeness.  In fact, we embrace the unknown.  We don’t attempt to answer the unanswerable.  We don’t give you a happy ending such as…

  • You reach heaven and it’s bliss forever.
  • You get enlightenment and then you’re done.
  • You’re in bed with a thousand and one virgins.
  • You become one with the universe.
  • You pass Go and collect $200.

No, our end is incomprehensible to us at this present stage.  The full scope of ascension is scarcely imaginable to us as we are, asleep and imprisoned.  What will it be like to escape from our prison?  Just how shall our freedom taste?  Does all that depend on the individual?  Perhaps reaching the ultimate goal will be a unique experience for everyone?  Beyond the shrouded mysteries of time, I know it is our destiny to become the answer… whatever it is, we must have it.  For each Cultist who has Awakened, there is a corresponding jade throne at the center of infinity.  It beckons us onward just as our yearning draws us nearer to an indescribable juggernaut of bilious ooze, horns, eyes, tentacles, and a gaping maw of teeth and tongues, thousands of tongues lashing and dripping, tasting the very essence of our salacious will!

The Eldritch Mandate

What is the Eldritch Mandate?  It is a command for select human beings to evolve.  This evolution is a process of transformation, transcendence, and eventual Godhood.  The Ancient Ones have provided us with the tools and understanding to change who we are for the better.  To shirk such a responsibility would make us no better than animals foraging for food and shelter in the wild.  The Eldritch Mandate is an opportunity to complete our evolution; now is the time and place to begin this epic journey.

But what gives us the right?  Shouldn’t man be content with what he has?  Isn’t it enough to wallow in our unfulfilled potential, our ignorance, our suffering?  The Cthulhu Cult cries no!  No, we shall not quietly be absorbed into this universe.  No, we shall not wait to die peacefully in our sleep.  Mankind was made for better things.  The fact that we can reason is but a single aspect.  There is a better way. Living deliberately, functioning with meaning and purpose.  The sleepers may continue in a world where substance is hidden and liberation is nothing more than a joke, but that is not for the masters of this world.  We seek something true because we know that everything that isn’t truth is falsehood!

Our Eldritch Mandate is a call to arms.  It is our burning desire to take action.  This world feels an awful lot like concrete, but it’s soft in the right places, malleable.  Why shouldn’t we make reality our mistress?  What better way to honor the Ancient Ones?  What better path to victory than to manifest our most obscene desires?

Belief Structures

What drives us is our desire to get from point A to point B.  It makes precious little difference to us what an individual Cultist believes.  Is the Cthulhu Mythos to be taken literally?  Are the Cult’s rituals the best or only use of Viridian Magic?  Does the Work necessitate spirituality or any kind of religious view?  The answer to all these is:  not necessarily.  Our organization represents a balanced understanding, a middle road.  Just as green is the center or central color in the spectrum… the Cthulhu Cult haphazardly stumbles to neither one side nor the other.  We take in all impressions, we consider all aspects.  Then, finally, we consciously choose the path which suits us best, individually and collectively.

We are neither for good nor evil.  Our understanding reaches beyond such simplistic duality.  Cultists are concerned with obtaining higher states of consciousness.  The Cult is beyond good and evil.  Good and evil connote a moral paradigm that does not require truth as a basis.  The Work suggests that we view things based on potential benefit; what will assist our awakening versus what perpetuates our sleeping state.

Dogma should not be confused with the preaching of fundamental principles.  There are some basic truths which are unavoidable.  Truths such as that man is asleep, that he has many ‘I’s within him, and that external forces played, and still do play, a role in our evolutionary development.  Yet, this religion is not in the habit of enforcing strict lines of thinking.  The possibility, nay, encouragement of personal assessment, curious speculation, and individual understanding is paramount.  At the end of the day, all our words are but instruction, a map showing the way.  How one gets to that destination is up to the Cultist in question.  Every journey is taken alone.

Ultimately, faith is more powerful than money.  Belief is the new currency; everything else is just the middleman confusing the issue, getting in the way.  All traditional forms of wealth are bankrupt or potentially so.  Those who believe make their own reality.  Determining what is real and what is not is the absolute authority and source of power. Cultists make a conscious decision to believe in our paradigm.  That is what matters.  Ordinary belief is the individual subscribing to a delusion, it does not require truth.  A Cultist seeks truth through experience first and then forms his belief on that foundation of truth.  This is a far better way to live; each of us discovering our own truth and building our collective and consciously chosen belief instead of simply accepting whatever consensual delusions are forced upon us.

Here are the expanded and updated Cult of Cthulhu degrees, also known as the Hierarchy of Madness…

Messenger of the Outer Angles: An introduction to the Cult.  This degree describes the casual Cultist, those who support the CoC without wanting to get too involved with Viridian Magic, religious aspects, and administration. However, a Messenger may join a CoC Grotto.  There is no questionnaire or application to be submitted before a Messenger of the Outer Angles is recognized.

This is the foundation or base of the ziggurat. Those who take the lowest risk receive the least reward. Messengers are encouraged to join in discussions, Grottoes, Temples, and other Cult affairs, but are not expected to do so.

There is no limit to the number of individuals holding this degree.


Herald of the Old Gods: This is an active member of the Cult. They have read our doctrine, know what we’re about, and indentify with our cause. Heralds are assumed to have an interest in Viridian Sorcery, religious aspects, and administration. There is a three question application which must be approved by a Priest of R’lyeh or the High Priest before acceptance.

This degree represents the lower structure of the ziggurat.  A Herald of the Old Gods may lead a Grotto and manage a Temple.  Upon becoming a Herald, a magical Cult name is chosen.

The maximum number of individuals holding this degree at any one time shall be 666.


Wizard of the Terrible Darkness: A disciplined and effective leader.  This is a Cultist who has decided to become seriously involved in the Cult of Cthulhu. As an officer of the CoC, the duties and responsibilities are greater but so are the rewards. One cannot become a Wizard of the Terrible Darkness without the approval of the High Priest.

This degree represents the lower middle portion of the ziggurat.  A 500 word essay must be submitted to the High Priest before a Wizard is accepted.  A WotTD may also join the Council of Wizards, a managerial body of dedicated Cultists.

The maximum number of individuals holding this degree at any one time shall be 333.


Seeker of S’ngac, the Violet Colored Gas: A Seeker desires to forge his own personal path within the Cthulhu Cult.  A Wizard who has proven himself over and over again may attain this degree.  At this point, Cultists can no longer apply for a position; they must be awarded it through outstanding efforts.

A Seeker represents the central portion of the ziggurat.

The maximum number of individuals holding this degree at any one time shall be 111.


Oneironaut of the Frozen Wastes: An Oneironaut travels the dream lands and astral space.  The varied dimensions of this universe and beyond are his domain.  An Oneironaut explores alternatives to existing in this world.

This degree represents the ziggurat’s upper middle.

The maximum number of individuals holding this degree at any one time shall be 93.


Visionary of the Nigrescent Feast: A Visionary disposes of that which is unwanted.  Through the use of Viridian Sorcery, he executes, assassinates, and destroys all obstacles, all hindrances, all opponents to the Cult’s Awakening.  Visionaries of the Nigrescent Feast have attained a position of power and influence not only in our earthly prison-world, but beyond.

This degree forms the upper portion of the ziggurat.

The maximum number of individuals holding this degree at any one time shall be 32.


Priest of Unimagined Horrors: This is where the Priesthood begins.  Cultists who have made it this far have joined the inner-circle and become a singularity of focus.  A Priest of Unimagined Horrors has witnessed the depths which our path takes us.  There is no going back at this point.  The Priesthood is a dedicated body of Men, no longer puppets to the lesser gods of the earth.

The first degree of Priesthood represents the upper tier.

The maximum number of individuals holding this degree at any one time shall be 23.


Priest of R’lyeh: A head officer of the Cult.  Such a high degree of initiation requires a lifetime commitment to our Teaching. A Priest of R’lyeh is involved in bringing the Emerald Kingdom to earth. To attain this degree, one must pass a thorough examination determined by the High Priest.

A Priest of R’lyeh represents the ziggurat’s top or ceiling.

The maximum number of individuals holding this degree at any one time shall be 9.


High Priest: The High Priest needs to direct and manage the entire organization. He is responsible for making sure things run smoothly; he provides direction and assistance when needed. The entire Priesthood answers to the Ipsissimus, enforcing his orders.

This degree represents the sacrificial altar crouched upon the highest level of the ziggurat.  Also known as the holy place from which to call upon the Ancient Ones.

The maximum number of individuals holding this degree at any one time shall be 3.


Ipsissimus: From a Work perspective, the Ipsissimus either has reached, or is fast approaching, the designation of Man Number 7. Also known as the priest behind the priest behind the priest. His thoughts, feelings, words, actions, and beliefs are almost beyond the comprehension of the profane. Ordinary man is blind and deaf to the deeper levels of his understanding. An Ipsissimus has the most freedom from limitations; he paradoxically lives in an uneasy balance between Universe A and Universe B. The being who attains such an exalted rank becomes the Cthulhu Cult’s struggle personified… liberation from oppression, embodying the very bilious green, meta-progressive span of evolution, the folding of space and time, a gateway towards Godhood. Certain individuals may see the Ipsissimus transformed from instrument of the Great Old Ones to the systemic protocol integral to the self-developing organism that is man; upholding the covenant, a living God (or approximation of that preternatural state).

This degree is recognition for placing one’s religion above all else… up to and including his very life.

Only 1 individual shall hold this, the highest of all possible degrees.




Along with one’s degree, a Cultist should also choose a path.  There are three paths which indicate a particular persuasion, attunement, and bias.  Such individual signifiers relate to either an Adversarial, Dreaming, or Esoteric path.  If we can clearly see in what direction a Cultist is going, then his brothers and sisters are better able to understand that Cultist.

The Adversarial path relates to a Satanic current.

The Dreaming path relates to a strictly Lovecraftian current.

The Esoteric path relates to The Work or what is known as the Fourth Way or Gurdjieff/Ouspensky teaching.



As an example, if a Cultist attains the degree of Herald of the Old Gods who found us because of his interest in dreams, the Mythos, and desires to make progress in a primarily Lovecraftian paradigm, then he should use the title Dreaming Herald of the Old Gods.  Likewise, a Seeker of S’ngac, the Violet Colored Gas who comes from a Satanic background should use the signifier Adversarial in his title like so, Adversarial Seeker of S’ngac, the Violet Colored Gas.  After three months of attaining a new degree, a Cultist should choose one of the three paths, adding it to his title and consciousness.

2.  How familiar are you with the Cult of Cthulhu and our paradigm?

3.  What are your short, medium, and long term goals?

Ascension Applications

A resume / background description and Ascension essay (500 words minimum) is required every time advancement is desired.  A Cultist must remain at his or her new rank for at least three months before seeking a higher level. Additionally, it is appreciated if ascended Cultists bring new individuals into our emerald fold. Those of a higher grade should attempt to mentor one or two lower ranked Cultists. Those who are Wizards of the Terrible Darkness and above must pledge their loyalty to Ipsissimus Venger As’Nas Satanis. In order to start the process, email a member of the Priesthood for specific details.

Mentor Program

As a Cultist grows in knowledge and being within the organization, he should feel the need to help others just as he has been helped. Giving back is a necessary step in the process. It is part of a great cycle. The most emerald and oozing of our lore travels ever downwards, from the top of the ziggurat to the base. It is a chain of assistance. Those at the top could not get to where they are without someone above and others below. To learn is to teach and vice versa.

It is necessary for each Cultist at the rank of Wizard or higher to either mentor another Cultist of lower degree or a potential Cultist. Time should be set aside each month to discuss ideas, theories, and ways to strengthen our religion. The Priesthood will organize the Mentor Program, assigning who is to be mentored and who will be doing the mentoring.

Guidelines for Creating and Operating a Grotto

Every Grotto, or distinct branch of the Cthulhu Cult, must be officially recognized by a member of the Priesthood.

Must include a Grotto Master, as well as, two or more Grotto members.

Grottoes are either formed because of proximity, devotional considerations, or agenda.  Proximity would be Cultists who live near each other.  Devotional considerations would be for the purposes of revering Nyarlathotep, for example.  Agenda means Cultists within a particular Grotto have a common, specific goal or goals.

A Cultist may have affiliation with a maximum of three Grottoes at any one time.

The 9AO is nearly identical to the now defunct Order of the Nine Angles, except all racist, neo-Nazi, and terrorist ideology has been removed. Cult of Cthulhu Oaths

Traditionally, religious orders and magical sects take an oath upon entering the fold. These are sacred vows which must be kept at all times. They serve the initiate along with the order itself. The Cult of Cthulhu doesn’t have many rules or laws, yet certain principles need to be maintained. The following oaths could be used in an initiation ceremony, recited to oneself regularly, or scrawled into a magical journal. The point is, these oaths are a guide…use them. When a member of our organization is in doubt, I hope these vows can offer spiritual guidance.

It should be understood that Cult of Cthulhu initiates must adhere to the following oaths. If a fellow Cultist should temporarily fall from grace, then it is the duty of his brother to remind him of the path. The best way to refresh his memory is by quoting the respective oath to him.

Eventually, individual Grottoes may come up with their own oaths, subject to the Priesthood’s judgment. However, any Grotto oaths shall always be secondary to the Cult of Cthulhu oaths.

Behold, the unholy trinity which binds our faith…

As I walk into the moonless night, I shall do what benefits the Old Ones and Their spawn; whatever is fruitful, righteous, and pleasurable is the way.

As I bow before the green onyx altar, I shall respect and honor the Cult of Cthulhu along with its members and vision. As I grow stronger, so does the Cult. As the Cult grows stronger, so do I.

Excommunication

Those who consistently disrupt the harmonious unity of the Cthulhu Cult shall be warned of their negative impact.  Cultists who remain disruptive and continue to negate our Teaching may be excommunicated by the Ipsissimus’ will alone.

Honors for Noble and Meritorious Service

These honorary titles may be bestowed upon individual Cultists by a Priest of R’lyeh or the High Priest.

Knight of the Chartreuse Void – An honorary title for service above and beyond the call of duty.  Specifically, a Knight initiates, persuades, and/or stimulates tangible change in the Cult’s favor.  Knights are recognized for exemplary service whilst attacking consensual reality.

Keeper of the Green Flame – An honorary title for service above and beyond the call of duty.  Specifically, a Keeper holds true to the fundamental values of the Cult.  Keepers devote themselves to the lifestyle of the paradigm, pay strict attention to the Oaths, and live according to the noblest of our Cult’s traditions.

Defender of the Emerald Faith – An honorary title for service above and beyond the call of duty.  Specifically, a Defender has gone to extraordinary lengths to protect the Cult.  No matter what Defenders have suffered, they persevere in the spirit of the Work.



Cult of Cthulhu Terminology

Aeonic Magic – Macro magic. Sorcery designed to affect massive changes on a societal or cultural level. Willed change directed towards an entire aeon.

Adversarial – Opposing. A person, group, or force that opposes or attacks; opponent; enemy; foe. Adversarial is one of the three Cult of Cthulhu paths a Cultist may choose if he wishes.

Anointing – Preparing, consecrating, or making sacred… usually during a ceremony. Specifically, the Cult of Cthulhu anoints a pregnant woman’s belly to pave the way for her child’s birth.

Apocalypse – The apocalyptic cataclysm, change, or revelation which has been prophesied by Ipsissimus Venger As’Nas Satanis and several other Cultists is assumed to begin towards the very end of 2012.

The Apocalypse will be a momentous event in mankind’s evolution.

Apples & Oranges – Comparing two dissimilar things to each other.

Astral Body – A soul. That part of a Conscious being which can survive death. An Astral Body can be created once Crystallization has taken place.

Autonomy – Having control of one’s existence; independence; freedom.

Awakening – The process of realizing what is true and real. Knowing Objective Consciousness. Developing Will; being able to do. Reaching one’s full potential. Full mindfulness and self-awareness on a deeper level than ordinary man usually suspects.

Being – Existing and how one deals with existence. The way we use Knowledge in order to reach Understanding.

Belief – Energy shaped a certain way by an individual or group. An ordering of the mind and therefore one’s subjective reality. Willed or Conscious imagination. Belief is one thing. Result is another. Where the two meet… that’s the Cthulhu Cult’s domain.

Chaos – Alien, demonic or unnatural order. Chaos appears to be random or unstructured to the uninitiated, but the Cultist sees chaos as a different kind of alignment or structure; one that is extraordinary.

Chief Feature – The primary aspect of oneself that must be struggled against. The Achilles heel to our Awakening. Most of the time, we cannot determine our own Chief Feature. It must be pointed out to us by others engaged in The Work.

Compromise – A resolution where no individual or group is completely satisfied. Meeting halfway, finding a middle ground.

Conscience – The inner sense of what is right or wrong in one’s conduct or motives, impelling one toward right action.

Conscious Circle of Humanity – The secret chiefs who guide mankind behind the scenes. Those men and women who have attained permanent Objective Consciousness. The CCoH are in direct communication with Higher Forces.

Conscious Projection – Also known as willed or intentional Projection. Intentionally forcing one’s perspective or subjective reality onto others in order to alter either consensual reality or objective reality.

Consciousness – Awareness of one’s own existence, behavior, attitudes, sensations, thoughts, surroundings, and other people.

Consensual Reality – Also known as Generally Accepted Reality. The shared network of belief systems which mesh together in a particular form. A collective or group view of the world, reality, etc.

Considering – External Considering is the ability or practice of reaching Understanding from another’s point of view. Internal Considering is the ability or practice of reaching Understanding only from your own limited viewpoint.

Constructive Criticism – A critique or appraisal which includes guidance for making progress.

Conviction – Belief three fold. A conviction is the unshakable certitude that reality is a certain way. Conviction is closely tied to Will and has an even greater chance of influencing Objective Reality.

Crystallization – An individual who can accept, store, and direct energy which flows from Higher Forces.

When Master ‘I’ or Real ‘I’ is given the authority to lead the other ‘I’s within the self. Crystallization is assumed to be right Crystallization. Wrong Crystallization is when Master ‘I’ or Real ‘I’ is not actually helping us to Awaken. Crystallization which forms forms wrongly can be Shattered in order to make way for Re-Crystallization.

Crystallization comes after forming Magnetic Center and before creating a Soul.

A crystal has many beneficial properties which separates it from Solidification. Crystal is a solid material whose constituent atoms, molecules, or ions are arranged in an orderly repeating pattern extending in all three spatial dimensions. Crystals are transparent or semi-transparent; can receive, hold, and give energy.

Cthulhu Mythos – The mythology/cosmology created by H.P. Lovecraft and carried on through various writers, artists, and musicians who resonated with the Gods, tomes, monsters, and cosmic horror perspective which Lovecraft introduced to the world in the 1920’s and 30’s.

The Cthulhu Mythos is the slimy, green, undulating background or backdrop which gives additional emotional stimulation and aesthetic resonance to the Cult of Cthulhu. It is the Mythos, of which Cthulhu is usually assumed to be the center, which makes this organization a religion.

Cult of Cthulhu – Influenced by Satanism, Chaos Magic, and Gnosticism, this quantum religion uses Fourth Way techniques while journeying upon the Left Hand Path with Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos undulating in the background. Also referred to as Cthulhu Cult.

Cultist – A member of the Cthulhu Cult.

Dimension – Various levels or layers within a certain reality.

Dreaming – A Path which Cultists might choose. This path focuses on the Lovecraftian aspects of the Cthulhu Cult.

Eldritch Mandate – Rule based upon blood, slime, darkness, sorcery, and tentacles! A command or authorization given to the Cult of Cthulhu by Higher Forces, namely the Ancient Ones. Cultists are charged with representing The Great Work, as well as, manifesting it upon earth.

Emerald – A precious type or shade of green. Emerald can be used to describe any number of things including the CoC’s religion, paradigm, Kingdom, or predicted Apocalypse.

Esoteric – a Path with Cultists might choose. This path focuses on the Fourth Way aspects of the Cthulhu Cult

Esotericism – Inner change. Esotericism is mainly concerned with that which is hidden or secret, in other words, self-Work.

Essence – One’s inner or true self which is usually obscured by False Personality. That part of an individual which is connected to Fate; one’s primal and permanent identity. Once False Personality is weakened, Essence can be strengthened through Work techniques.

Exalt – Kudos, praise, affirmation of a job well done.

Faith – Between one moment and the next there is nothingness. Faith carries us from each second of reality to the following it. Trust, willful hope, the energy keeping our beliefs alive.

False Personality – That which we pick up from life; that which does not belong to us. The shell which grows over Essence stunting the growth of our True Self or Soul. The imaginary cohesiveness of ourself we show to the world.

Flavor – The nature, degree, texture, intensity or character of Juice (aesthetic force or power). Determining how fruitful a thing is. The sweeter the flavor, the more powerful or forceful the fruit juice is.

Flaw – Usually leading to Chief Feature and/or wrong Crystallization. A flaw is a singular imperfection which stands in the way of our Awakening. Flaws are extremely difficult to repair or overcome even after they are recognized.

Follow – To come after in sequence; moving in the same direction; carrying to a conclusion; pursuit of a solution. A follower accepts the guidance and sometimes authority of a particular leader or Master.

Formatory – Dualistic; basic. Formatory thinking leads to options such as yes or no, right or wrong, black or white. There is no third side in that which is formatory. No subtlety or nuance or grey area.

Formless Black Essence – The origin of all Left Hand Path deities. The Formless Black Essence has no discernible shape, is voidlike in color exemplifying pure darkness, and is the very heart of a matter.

Fourth Way – The Fourth Way is a chain (reaction) of ideas which is so comprehensive and profound that no single definition could objectively do it justice. In my own words, the teaching which Gurdjieff acquired and disseminated through his disciples, most notably Ouspensky, is the way towards enlightenment. Students of the Fourth Way or The Work have the possibility to take charge of their own personal development on a multi-dimensional scale.

God – Superior being; divine. I don’t believe anyone or anything can be all powerful, all knowing, everywhere, and always. My idea of God has limitations, boundaries, and quite a bit of fine print.

Godhood – The process or attainment of becoming like God, a divine being. Godhood in the spiritual or supernatural sense is designated by using a capital “G”. Conversely, godhood with a lower case “g” denotes the process or attainment of superiority during this life; reaching the peak of one’s potential.

Great Old Ones – Those Devil Gods of Lovecraft’s Mythos who altered man’s evolution aeons ago, are imprisoned in Universe C, and eagerly await the night when they shall return. The Great Old Ones include such beings as Cthulhu, Yog-Sothoth, Nyarlathotep, Shub-Niggurath, Tsathoggua, and others.

Greater Truth – The essence behind truth. What really is beyond illusion. Greater Truth might appear as falsehood to ordinary man. However, the initiated can occasionally sense a higher reality lurking behind the pedestrian truth paraded daily in front of our eyes.

Herald – An official messenger or representative of the Cthulhu Cult. A Herald of the Old Gods is the second rank or degree obtainable.

Hierarchy – Stratification given structure. Individuals have different gifts, talents, merits, flaws, and weaknesses. It’s best to suit a particular individual to his station based on ability. The Hierarchy of Madness is the name for the CoC’s graded order by rank or degree.

Higher Forces – Any energy, force, vibration, entity, power or intelligence which originates from Universe C and/or is more Conscious than man.

Identification – Getting lost in that which is being observed. For instance, when watching sports a fan might be so focused on the game that he has lost inner or self control; he is no longer himself; no longer Conscious of who he is.

Illusion – A false front or facade; a convincing reality but one that is not actually real.

Imagination – Believing that one is something that one is not. Believing that one has something that one does not have. An example would be thinking that one is automatically Awake when one is actually asleep.

Imperfect – No human is optimal all the time. People make mistakes. Humanity is an occasionally faulty being.

Infernal – Having to do with the Satanic, Deviltry, Hell, etc.

Influence A – The stuff of life.

Influence B – Things originating from Higher Forces or the Conscious Circle of Humanity which, when coming into human contact, inevitably degenerate to some degree. Half-way between Conscious and ordinary or mechanical.

Influence C – That which comes directly from Higher Forces or Conscious Circle of Humanity.

Ipsissimus – The highest grade of spiritual leadership; transcendent. Embodying the third side. An Ipsissimus of the Cthulhu Cult has the ultimate authority. The current holder of this rank is CoC founder, Venger As’Nas Satanis.

Jade Ichor – The formal reference to green slime. Blood of the Gods colored precious and exotic green.

Jihad – War, conflict, ongoing striving usually connected with spiritual matters.

Juice – Aesthetic force or power. That which is fruitful contains juice as in fruit juice. Buzzwords have juice, pop culture references have juice, and magical actions have juice. Determining what kind of juice a thing has concerns its flavor.

Karma – The idea that what goes around, comes around. In the words of Sir Issac Newton, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Kingdom – The zone within Universe C where the Great Old Ones live and rule. This is usually referred to as the Emerald Kingdom. This is the final destination of a Cultist’s Soul.

Knowledge – Raw data; information; familiarity with truth but not truth itself. Knowledge requires being in order to manifest Understanding.

Kort’thalis – The official symbol of our religion. Kort’thalis is Viridian for Cthulhu Cult. It is an infernal bringing together, manifesting, and ordering of that which is alien, eldritch, and having to do with Lovecraft / Dread Cthulhu.

Law of Seven – The number Seven has been used since time immemorial to describe the creations and ordinances of Higher Forces and the subsequent patterns that appear in the natural world. The seven distinct steps, phases, or levels within an Octave.

Law of Three – Anything which occurs or has the potential to occur requires three forces: positive (active), negative (passive), and neutral or reconciling. This third force or third side is the deciding factor and sometimes embodies the synthesis of the opposing positive and negative forces.

Leader – One who leads or shows the way. A director. A guide, guru, or authority who heads in a certain direction… usually generating followers.

Left Hand Path – The Left Hand Path is a spiritual process of dissention whose aims are Autonomy, Power, and Self-Deification. Those involved with this sinister journey value Higher Forces, Magical Practice, and Occultism/Esotericism.

Lemons & Limes – comparing two similar but not identical things to each other.

Liberation – Escape; freedom; having new opportunities. If life is a prison, then liberation means being unrestrained or unrestricted.

Life – That which is mechanical, natural, and illusory. The adversary of Awakening. Dealing with life is a necessary evil. Life is also the best battlefield or laboratory for Awakening. It creates false personality.

Linear Goal Strategy – Trying to achieve a particular goal or series of goals not for their own sake but in order to get closer to one’s true aim. Goal bureaucracy. An ineffective way of manifesting Will.

Lovecraftian Theocracy – A system of government based upon religion(s) devoted to cosmic horror, the Great Old Ones, and dark forbidden lore. The Cult of Cthulhu supports the creation of a Lovecraftian Theocracy.

Magic – Willed change.

Magnetic Center – If an individual realizes that he is composed of many different and competing ‘I’s, the opportunity to organize them presents itself. Magnetic Center is when ‘I’s that wish to Work are brought together within an individual.

Man Number 1 – A man whose center of gravity resides in his physical center.

Man Number 2 – A man whose center of gravity resides in his emotional center.

Man Number 3 – A man whose center of gravity resides in his intellectual center.

Man Number 4 – A man who has come to The Work and begins to recognize the importance of this teaching. At this point, Magnetic Center has been created.

Man Number 5 – A man who has sufficiently learned about The Work and uses it regularly to change himself. This adeptness comes with flashes of Objective Consciousness. At this point, a Crystallization can be created.

Man Number 6 – A man who has control of himself and can experience Objective Consciousness when he desires. At this point, a soul can be created.

Man Number 7 – A man who is as close to Godhood as possible in this life. Man Number 7 has a fully formed soul or astral body and becomes the bridge between Universe A and Universe C where the Ancient Ones reign supreme.

Master – Advanced adept; One who has superior understanding of a subject, usually this subject is highly regarded such as the Fourth Way.

Mechanical – Inorganic; having to do with machines. A mechanical man is asleep and more like a machine than a Conscious being. Mechanical thinking is usually formatory or linear or not abstract. In The Work, we strive to be less mechanical and more Awake.

Medial Magic – Magic used to affect multiple events, larger affairs, more than a single person, or an entire scenario.

Messenger – A person who carries or brings a message or goes on an errand for another. A Messenger of the Outer Angles is the entrance degree for the Cthulhu Cult. It represents the first step into our quantum religion and emerald paradigm.

Messiah – Promised one; deliverer; anointed; the bearer of great expectations; redeemer; liberator.

Metanoia – Change of mind or Conscious psychological shift; spiritual conversion or Awakening.

Micro Magic – Magic used to influence an individual or isolated event. Sorcery on a very small scale.

Multi-Benefit Goal – Goals which have more than one benefit where the achievement of said goal yields multiple positive changes in one’s life.

Multi-Dimensional – Operating or existing in more than one dimension. Each stream of reality has various dimensions or aspects or tributaries within it.

Negative – The forces which are opposed to Awakening. The opposite of positive. Negativity brings man down to a lower level.

Negative Emotions – The emotional expression of negativity. Giving voice to those feelings which unnecessarily burden us.

Think of it this way, human beings are the vehicle for negative motions. When we express negative motions we disappear. Expressing negative emotions is one of the most daunting obstacles to Awakening.

Objective – That which exists outside one or more individual perceptions.

Objective Reality – That which exists outside one or more individual perceptions. A greater expression of reality going beyond the subjective. Higher actuality.

Occultism – Belief in the existence of secret, mysterious, or supernatural agencies. Pertaining to that which is hidden.

Octave – Using the Law of Seven as a scale. An ascending or descending ladder for expressing progression and decline. The eighth point is the first point or ladder rung of the next Octave.

Oneironaut – A dream traveler or explorer.

Order – A particular arrangement.

Parallel Goals – Things that we strive to achieve of equal importance. These goals do not feed off of, inspire, or motivate each other; unlike Synergistic Goals.

Polygamy – The practice of having more than one spouse, especially wife, at one time. The Cult of Cthulhu believes in plural marriage.

Positive – The beneficial aspects of a thing which lead towards Awakening. Almost everything is made up of Positive, Negative, and Neutral or Reconciling force.

Prison – The ordinary world we live in. This can usually be extended to include all of Universe A. We use prison as a metaphor to describe our lack of choice, control, and baseline awareness of what’s going on.

Projection – The belief that others share one’s subjective mental life or interpretation of reality.

Proof – The illusion of facts, reality, and subjective truth.

Purge – Getting rid of something unwanted; annihilation; eliminating that which is unproductive, negative, or anathema to Awakening.

Quantum – The smallest part; foundational; bedrock. Relating to quantum physics, quantum mechanics, and string theory. “He lives in the smallest parts of it. In the atoms… smaller… invisible… he lives in all of it. In the sum of its parts.” ~ Prince of Darkness

Raspberry Cheesecake – A useful phrase or possibly meme created by the Cult of Cthulhu for the purpose of expressing humor, attracting attention, and illustrating the absurdity inherent in this and every system.

Reality – The state or quality of being real. An expression of existence or actuality. See also Objective Reality and Subjective reality.

Re-Crystallization – After wrong Crystallization has been discovered and shattered, Re-Crystallization can begin… a new forming of oneself to accept, store, and direct energy.

Self-Deification – The Left Hand Path process of becoming as God, like God, or perhaps God itself.

Shatter – The destruction or breakdown of Crystallization. Wrong Crystallization needs to be shattered before one can Re-Crystallize.

Sleeping – The so-called waking state in which man lives most of his life. Sleep is a form of unawareness allowing Life to determine our thoughts, feelings, and actions for us.

Slime – A liquid which is the opposite of ordinary purification. Slime, usually some form of green, is a thick unwholesome fluid used in several CoC rituals. Some view it as a substance taken directly from the Great Old Ones.

Smite – To show one’s disapproval to another.

Solidification – Molded into a particular shape which hardens and no longer allows for change or personal growth.

Soul – Every human being is born with a Soul the size of a tiny seed. Ordinarily, the Soul does not grow throughout one’s life. When Essence has overcome False Personality the Soul can develop and mature. A Cultist cannot enter Universe C or the Emerald Kingdom without a full-grown Soul.

Subjective – Pertaining to the individual.

Subjective Reality – That which a particular individual acknowledges to be real, actual, or existing.

Subservience – Regarded as the negative side of worship. Subservience is being excessively submissive; obsequious; subordinate.

Synergistic Goals – Multiple goals which feed off, motivate, and/or inspire each other. Goals working in synergy.

Synthesis – The combining of separate, occasionally opposed, elements into something singular and unified.

Terror of the Situation – An emotional reaction to the human condition as it truly is. This expression was used by Gurdjieff to focus our attention on taking action: escaping from prison.

Testicular Fortitude – Having the balls to see something through. Following through an arduous path or action. Willful tenacity.

Understanding – The combination of Being and Knowledge. Understanding is Objective comprehension.

Unification – Creating unity. Identifying commonalities and using them to form a stronger assemblage. Bringing similar people, ideas, and operations together in collaboration and mutual assistance in order to overcome obstacles which would defeat an isolated group.

Universe A – The universe which human beings currently live in; a prison where the lesser gods of the earth feed upon our suffering.

Universe B – Where Higher Forces meet the ordinary world or ordinary reality. A cosmic zone in between in between Universe A and Universe C.

Universe C – The universe where Higher Forces dwell. Universe C represents a cosmos with a more substantial reality.

Utopia – An ideal society or state that is literally too good to be true (i.e. without suffering of any kind). A fictional paradise which is unrealistic. Utopia would be a fruitless environment for Working.

Viridian – The Cult of Cthulhu’s magical language similar to Aklo. The sounds of Viridian are sonic keys which can tear holes in the fabric of reality.

Viridian Sorcery – Cult of Cthulhu magic, usually containing the Viridian language. This type of sorcery acknowledges and is directed towards the Great Old Ones.

Visionary – One who has visions or sees things unnaturally. A Visionary of the Nigrescent Feast knows what the future contains.

Way – A mode, manner, fashion, or certain direction. The Way leads to all that which benefits the Cult of Cthulhu and its members.

Weighted Voting – Casting a vote or democratic influence in an action or event wherein that influence is determined by CoC rank. Cultists of a higher degree within our quantum religion will have more say in what goes on; their vote will have more weight or be counted disproportionately with Cultists of lesser rank.

Why Do The Green Stars Have Seeds? – The question which has no answer. There is no correct way of replying to this query. It needs no answer because the question itself contains all the Juice required.

Will – Ordinary will is really more like reaction. It changes frequently, is full of uncertainty, and is not sustainable. Capitalized Will or True Will is attached to one’s fate and is only available to those who have achieved Crystallization. This kind of Will almost never changes, is certain, and sustainable for incredibly long periods of time.

Wizard - One who practices magic or sorcery. A Wizard of the Terrible Darkness begins his journey towards leading the Cthulhu Cult.

Work – The Conscious effort and intentional suffering which Cultists undergo in order to Awaken.

Worship – Honor, adore, respect, reverence, or pay homage to. Worship is generally reserved for that which is Higher, Divine, or Godlike.
